About Stellar
A low-cost payment network designed for financial inclusion and cross-border transfers.
Stellar (XLM) is a payments-focused blockchain launched in 2014 by Jed McCaleb (also a Ripple co-founder) and Joyce Kim. Stellar was built to enable fast, low-cost cross-border transfers and is particularly focused on financial inclusion in developing markets. The Stellar Consensus Protocol achieves finality in 3-5 seconds with minimal energy usage.
Stellar powers remittance services (including MoneyGram's USDC settlement layer), international payroll, and central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilots in multiple countries. The Stellar Development Foundation has active partnerships in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. XLM is the native token used to pay small transaction fees.
