About Chainlink
The dominant decentralized oracle network connecting blockchains to real-world data.
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network launched in 2017 by Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis. Smart contracts on blockchains cannot natively access data from outside their own chain — Chainlink solves this by providing a tamper-resistant way to feed real-world data (prices, weather, sports results) into smart contracts and to trigger off-chain payments. LINK is the native token used to pay node operators.
Chainlink price oracles are used by nearly every major DeFi protocol — Aave, Compound, Synthetix, and many others rely on Chainlink for asset prices. Beyond DeFi, Chainlink is used for insurance settlement, NFT randomness, supply-chain verification, and increasingly cross-chain messaging through CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol).
